Pictures show construction of a classic style bass reflex speaker cabinet for use with a classic 12" Jensen or similar type
speaker. This type of cabinet design along with the use of a classic cone speaker results in a higher efficiency speaker
system that does not require a lot of power to drive. Constructed using 3/4 inch plywood with veneer on the finish side. Tools used were a power saw, hand jig saw (saber saw), electric drill, a hack saw and a sanding block. If you have access to a table saw it will be a much easier job. There are 3 holes on the front board. The top hole is for a mid range/high frequency horn. The center hole is for the 12" Jensen speaker and the bottom hole is the reflex port hole. The speaker hole is square for 2 reasons. First, a square hole is easier to make for those of us without the tools to make a good round hole. Second, a speaker board is used that screws on from the inside that does have a round hole and allows the speaker to be a 10" or 12". The speaker board is painted black, being black helps hide any imperfections in the round speaker hole. The cabinet pieces are screwed and glued together using 1 X 2 wood material. Pine is OK for the 1 X 2 but it should be clear pine without knots and straight. Use a good wood glue, do not use paper glue like Elmers white glue. |
